Box Score

LEICESTER, Mass. – The Lyndon State College men's lacrosse team had their four-game winning streak snapped by Becker College, 10-7, Tuesday night.

Becker (1-7) opened the game with a goal from Blake Boutiette (Burrillville, R.I.), who scored with 12:44 to go in the first quarter off a pass from Joseph Linnehan (Dedham, Mass.).

The Hornets (4-2) answered with the equalizer two minutes later when Konner Bick (North Syracuse, N.Y.) found the back of the net for his 12th goal of the season, assisted by Anthony Altermatt (New Milford, Conn.).  The Hornets went up 2-1 with 9:39 left in the first on a shot by Spencer Aubin (Sharon, Mass.), assisted by Ian Pelkey (Milton, Vt.).

Playing from behind, Becker would answer late in the quarter.  Jack Schneider (Morrisville, Vt.) scored with 2:15 to go to tie it up, and with 1:08 remaining, the Hawks would go in front again when Daniel Johnson (Plymouth, Mass.) scored his ninth goal of the season assisted by midfielder Cruz Desrochers (Malden, Mass.).  Becker finished the first leading 3-2.

In the second, Lyndon tied it at three goals apiece on Bick's second goal of the game, assisted by Pelkey.  Becker retook the lead when Avyay Chaganty (Bridgewater, N.J.) scored his team-leading 14th goal of the season, assisted by Lewis Jaworski (Cambridge, Mass.) with 11:57 to go in the half.  Then with 5:11 to go, Chaganty found the back of the net again when Johnson found him for another strike.  Becker went into halftime leading 5-3.

Seven minutes into the third quarter, Boutiette scored his second goal of the game, to put Becker up by three goals at 6-3.  With 1:43 to go, Johnson found Blake Gordon (East Greenbush, N.Y.) for his fifth goal of the year as the Hawks went into the final quarter leading 7-3.

In the fourth quarter, Lyndon rallied.  Altermatt scored with 13:43 to go in the game, and just 21 seconds later sophomore midfielder Shea Jones (Hull, Mass.) scored to pull the Hornets to within two at 7-5.  Then at 8:46, Lyndon's Zachary Carey (Exeter, N.H.) hit pay dirt, and it was a one goal game.

Gordon picked up his second goal of the game to give the Hawks a cushion at 8-6.  Lyndon answered back with 7:56 to go, as Pelkey found Aubin for his second goal of the game.  The Hawks came back with another tally as Johnson scored for the Hawks to make it 9-7 with 7:21 remaining.

Finally, with 3:45 to go, Boutiette put the hosts up 10-7 off an assist from Nicholas Mariano (Cranston, R.I.).  This time, the Hawks would hold on to the lead to earn their first victory.

Aubin and Bick finished with two goals apiece while Pelkey dished out a game-high four assists.  Shane Morin (Salem, N.H.) made four saves while Marcus Bessette (Pembroke, N.H.) entered the game in relief and recorded six stops in 30 minutes for Lyndon.

Boutiette paced Becker with three goals.  Trey McMillen (Grapevine, Tex.) recorded nine saves in net, earning his first career victory.

The Hornets are back in conference action Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at New England College.

The Hawks travel to face Anna Maria College at the same date and time.
