Box Score SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Lyndon State College men's lacrosse team opened their 2017 season with an 11-4 loss to SUNY Cobleskill Sunday afternoon on the turf at Union College's Bailey Field.
Cobleskill opened up the scoring with an unassisted goal from Payton Tromblee at the 11:07 mark in the first quarter. Ian Pelkey (Milton, Vt.) tied it up at 1-1 for the Hornets on an unassisted goal with 3:01 left in the quarter.
The Fighting Tigers picked up two goals, both a man up, in the second quarter to take a 3-1 lead into halftime.
Cobleskill continued to stay hot in the third quarter as they tallied five goals, including two by Jeremy Mowrey, to go up 8-1.
Spencer Aubin (Sharon, Mass.) picked up a goal while a man down but Cobleskill answered with three more goals to bring the score to 11-2 with 6:44 to play. Aubin picked up another goal with 2:47 on the clock and Logan Parenti (Salem, N.H.) finished out the scoring just nine seconds later for the 11-4 final score.
Shane Morin (Salem, N.H.) made 16 saves and picked up six groundballs in the loss while John Montaniz made 18 stops for the win.
The Hornets were able to cause eight turnovers to just five caused turnovers from the Fighting Tigers. Unfortunately, the Hornets were plagued by twelve penalties.
The Hornets (0-1) face off next with Houghton on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m.
