BANGOR, Maine – The 2016-17 season came to a close for the Lyndon State College men's basketball team Friday afternoon as they fell to the top-seeded Husson University Eagles 98-84 in the North Atlantic Conference semifinal.

Raymond Monroe (Cranston, R.I.) came off the bench to lead the Hornets with 20 points, shooting 4-for-7 from behind the arc.  Eric Vargas (Lowell, Mass.) notched 13 points, seven assists, and three rebounds while Charles Correa Jr. (Prospect Heights, R.I.) recorded 11 points, four rebounds, and three assists.

Husson's Raheem Anderson scored 33 points and dished out six assists while Mitch Worcester added 22 points.  Justin Martin grabbed a game-high 12 boards.

Scoring was slow start as the teams were knotted at 7-7 with 13:16 on the clock.  Both squads traded points before the Eagles began to pull away as they went up 17-12 at the midway point after a three from Alonzo McCain.  The Eagles steadily increased their lead over the next ten minutes, taking a 50-30 advantage into the break while shooting 48.5 percent from the field.

The second half was a battle of the offenses as the Hornets outscored the Eagles 54-48 in the last 20 minutes but were unable to catch up, falling by a final score of 98-84.

The Hornets finish the 2016-17 season 12-14 overall after earning the fourth seed in the NAC.

The Eagles advance to the NAC finals on Saturday against the three seed, Thomas College, at 2:00 p.m.
