Hornets Let One Slide to Beavers

FARMINGTON, Maine – The Lyndon State College men's basketball team let a first half lead slip through their fingers as they dropped a North Atlantic Conference game at the University of Maine at Farmington Friday night, 75-69.

Lyndon's Xavier Colbert (Manassas, Va.) led all scorers with 20 points on 8-15 shooting from the field.  Charles Correa, Jr. (Prospect Heights, R.I.) added 15 points and seven rebounds while Josiah Woodruff (Washington, D.C.) and Kevin Love (Bristol, Conn.) chipped in eight points apiece.

Amir Moss led UMF with 15 points.  Tyus Ripley recorded a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds.

The Hornets held an 11-9 lead about half way through the first quarter when Darnay Gray (Mashantucket, Conn.) hit a layup followed by a three from Colbert to push the lead to 14-9. UMF battled back to take a lead when Ryan Rice hit back-to-back layups after a few turnovers by the Hornets.

With about five minutes left in the first half, the Hornets tied the game at 21 and went on a 9-4 run to finish out the first half with the lead at 30-25.

UMF opened the second half on a 24-12 run in the first 10 minutes of play for a 49-42 lead.  Lyndon closed the gap with an 8-2 run but UMF stretched the lead back out 59-50 with 5:12 to play.

Each team went back and forth for the next two minutes but the Beavers held on to their lead after Robinson hit a layup to make the score 65-54.

The Hornets went on to hit a few threes from Charles Correa Jr., which put the Hornets down by seven. UMF started to hit their free throws after going 2-8 in the first half to close out the game with the score at 75-69.

The Hornets (6-11, 5-6 NAC) travel to Thomas for a 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.

The Beavers (7-10, 6-5 NAC) will host Johnson St. Saturday.
