Box Score LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – In their 3rd annual Serving up a Cure match, the Lyndon State College women's tennis team hosted Johnson State College in a North Atlantic Conference match Thursday afternoon and fell 9-0 to the Badgers. Both teams wore pink jerseys for the match to promote breast cancer awareness.
The Badgers picked up two quick 8-0 wins in second and third flight doubles to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Lyndon's Nichole Jones (Lisbon Falls, Maine) and Carina Alden (Monterey, Mass.) put Katherina Van Woerkom (Miami, Fla.) and Nicole Monick (Bennington, Fla.) to the test as the Badgers escaped first flight doubles with an 8-5 victory.
In fifth and sixth flight singles, Jordan Miller (Stowe, Vt.) and Ashley Fogg (White River Junction, Vt.) grabbed 6-0, 6-0 victories over Faibe Achinda (Hinesburg, Vt.) and Roze Yar (Thailand), respectively, to give the Badgers the first two singles matches. Kali Corell (Hartford, Vt.) and Monick continued the trend with 8-0 wins over Samantha Fisher (Brattleboro, Vt.) and Haley Bouley (Holliston, Mass.) in the third and fourth flights, respectively. Jana Somero (St. Albans, Vt.) topped Alden 6-1, 6-0 in the second flight. In the longest match of the afternoon, Jones and Van Woerkom squared off with many long, exciting rallies. Van Woerkom ultimately took the top flight 6-1, 6-2 to give the Badgers the 9-0 sweep.
The Hornets (0-8, 0-4 NAC) host Colby-Sawyer Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
The Badgers (6-1, 3-1 NAC) host MCLA on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
