Box Score LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – The Lyndon State College women's tennis team opened up North East Atlantic Conference East Division play Saturday with a 9-0 loss to Castleton University at the Dudley Bell Tennis Center.
The Spartans started off doubles with a victory by forfeit in the third flight. Ciara Bannister and Megan Nadler escaped first flight doubles with a 9-7 win over Nichole Jones (Lisbon Fall, Maine) and Carina Alden (Marlborough, Mass.) while Kirsten Kruk and Kayla Zsido topped Alexa Richard (Haverhill, Mass.) and Samantha Fisher (Brattleboro, Vt.) 8-3 in the second flight.
With a 3-0 lead after doubles, the Spartans continued their charge in singles. Bannister topped Jones 6-1, 6-2 in the first flight while Nadler picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win over Alden. Kruk took the third flight 6-1, 6-0 over Richard and Kayla Zsido finished out play with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Fisher. Castleton took the final two flights by forfeit.
The Hornets (0-4, 0-1 NEAC) continue NEAC play at MCLA Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
The Spartans (2-1, 1-0 NEAC) host Green Mountain College Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
