Hornets disappointed by Eagles in conference opener

BANGOR, Maine – The Lyndon State College men's lacrosse team opened up North Atlantic Conference play with a loss to Husson University 12-5 at Boucher Field on Saturday afternoon.

Zachary Carey (Exeter, N.H.) recorded two goals for the Hornets while Shea Jones (Hull, Mass.) picked up two assists.  Kevin McCarthy (West Sayville, N.Y.), Adam Peeler (Worcester, Mass.), and Spencer Aubin (Sharon, Mass.) added a goal each.

Brandon Corbo led the Eagles' offense with three goals and three assists.  Jack White also recorded three goals while Brooks Gay tallied two goals and two assists.

Husson controlled the tempo in the first quarter with solid passing and aggressive pressure any time Lyndon had possession.  The Eagles fired 14 shots in the quarter, landing six in the back of the net.  The Hornets were limited to just one shot in the quarter as the Eagles took a 6-0 lead into the second quarter.

Lyndon was able to gain more possession in the second quarter as they got off 10 shots.  However, Husson increased their shots as well, taking 19 shots and scoring on four of them.  Playing a man up, McCarthy put the Hornets in the scoring column with 3:43 left to play in the half.  Corbo answered a little over a minute later with his third goal of the game to give the Eagles a 10-1 lead going into the half.

Lyndon's offense saw more success at the beginning of the second half as Carey netted his first goal at the 11:11 mark of the third quarter.  After another Husson goal, Carey tallied his second goal with over five minutes left in the quarter.

The Eagles scored a quick goal to start the final quarter and push the score to 12-3.  After Peeler's goal, Aubin finished the scoring with 1:02 to play on a diving shot.

Shane Morin (Salem, N.H.) and Marcus Bessette () eight saves and seven saves, respectively, as they split time in net for the Hornets.

Matt Martin picked up the win in goal for the Eagles in 30 minutes of work.  Nick Zavorotny relieved Martin for the remainder of the game.

The Hornets (0-4) host New England College Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. to continue conference play.

The Eagles (1-5) travel to Johnson on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. start time.
