Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Lyndon State College men's tennis team lost their 2016 season opener 9-0 to Norwich University Thursday afternoon.
Ian Hyte led the way for the Cadets with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles over Michael Sigsbury (Pownal, Vt.). Hyte also teamed with Jeff Purdy to take No. 1 doubles over Sigsbury and Jake LaCerda (Gray, Maine) by a score of 8-1.
Purdy won No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-0 over Kyle Berteau (Richmond, Vt.).
Jay Carter picked up the 6-0, 6-0 win over LaCerda in No. 2 singles. Carter and Tyler Eagan topped Berteau and Derek Kalnick (Norton, Mass.) 8-0 in No. 2 doubles.
Mason Madison and Sam Beiter won No. 3 doubles by forfeit. They also won No. 4 singles and No. 5 singles over Kalnicki and Ben Park (Colchester, Vt.) 6-0, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1 respectively to complete the sweep of the match.
Lyndon drops to 0-1 on the year and will travel to play Green Mountain College on Sunday March 20.
Norwich improves to 1-2 and will travel to face Castleton University on March 23.
