Box Score JOHNSON Vt. – The Lyndon State College men's basketball season came to an end Tuesday night after a 91-87 loss to third seed Johnson State College in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) quarterfinals. The Hornets finish the season 10-15 overall and 8-11 in the NAC. The Badgers advance to the NAC Semifinals and will play second seed Colby-Sawyer on Friday at 8:00 pm in Bangor, Maine.
Shaun Hill (Providence, R.I.) scored a game-high 35 points for the Hornets with help from Kevin Love (Bristol, Conn.), who contributed 21 points in the visitors losing efforts. Love earned a double-double pulling down 12 rebounds.
All five Johnson starters scored in double-figures, led by 19 points from Rahim Bunch and 17 for Rasul Jackson, Benjamin Holl, Demetrius Slade, Asim Khan.
Johnson jumped out to a quick 14-8 lead in the opening seven minutes. The Hornets took the points back and then some, pulling ahead by as many as 18 points, fueled by 16 points from Hill. With the surge, the Hornets headed into the locker room up 52-35.
Johnson opened the second half with a 23-5 run as the hosts battled back into the game, taking the lead 58-57 with 13:27 to play. The Badgers continued their push over the next ten minutes, extending the lead to as many as 14 points with 3:17 on the clock. The Hornets were able to cut the deficit to 87-82 with 43 seconds to play and despite a buzzer-beating three from half court from Gabriel Torres (Woodland, Calif.) they came up short 91-87.
