Box Score HENNIKER, N.H. – Back in action after the break, the Lyndon State College men's basketball team struggled to find their flow offensively against host New England College, falling 65-57.
Just five minutes into the game the Hornets jumped out to an 8-4 lead. The Pilgrims quickly tied it up at 8-8 before the visitors pushed the lead back to four at 12-8. The teams would battle back and forth until a three from Lyndon's Eric Vargas (Lowell, Mass.) at the 11-minute mark notched the score at 16-16. NEC would record an 8-0 run but Lyndon answered with its own eight-point spurt. Trading points to end the half, NEC would grab a 32-30 going into the break.
The battle would continue into the second half until the Pilgrims tallied a 12-0 run to take a 55-44 advantage with 9:34 to play. The Hornets were unable to cut the lead under six for the rest of the way and NEC's Dondre James would go 4-4 from the foul line to seal the 65-57 victory for the hosts.
Shaun Hill (Providence, R.I) led the Hornets in scoring with nine points while Gabriel Torres (Woodland, Calif.) and Raymond Monroe (Cranston, R.I.) each chipped in eight. Vargas led Lyndon on the boards with five rebounds and added four assists.
Leading the way for NEC was Joel DeMadet who recorded a double-double finishing with 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Dezron Wilson finished with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Dondre James chipped in nine points, including 7-for-7 from the foul line, pulled down six rebounds and dished out five assists.
Lyndon (4-4, 2-2 NAC) travels to take on Thomas College Friday in another North Atlantic Conference matchup.
New England College (4-7, 2-3 NAC) visits non-conference opponent Daniel Webster College Thursday.
