Box Score LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – The Lyndon State College men's basketball finished out their nonconference schedule with a loss to Middlebury College 85-74 Tuesday night in Stannard Gymnasium.
Middlebury's Matt St. Amour (Swanton, Vt.) led all scorers with 23 points while grabbing five rebounds and dishing out six assists. Zach Baines (Stamford, Conn.) shot 9-10 from the field to finish with 20 points and five rebounds while Matt Daley (Fairfield, Conn.) added 12 points and six boards.
Four players scored in double figures for the Hornets, led by Raymond Monroe's (Cranston, R.I.) 17-point, five rebound performance. Kevin Love (Bristol, Conn.) pulled in six rebounds to go with 12 points. Corey Frost (Hamden, Conn.) and Shaun Hill (Providence, R.I.) also chipped in 12 points apiece.
The Panthers started the game out with an 8-0 run as the Hornet defense came out flat. Frost would come off the bench to stop the bleeding for Lyndon with a three near the top of the arc. The Hornets slowly chipped away at the lead before grabbing their first lead of the night at 26-24 on a three from Robbie Rouelle (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) with 5:56 to play in the first half. Both teams battled to gain the advantage over the next five minutes but it would be the Panthers that would go into the half on top at 37-35.
The Hornets were unable to take the lead again in the second half as St. Amour knocked down 20 of his 23 points over the final 20 minutes while the Panthers slowly pulled away for the 85-74 victory.
Lyndon (6-10, 4-6 NAC) hosts Maine-Farmington Friday night at 7:30 p.m., resuming North Atlantic Conference play.
Middlebury (11-7, 5-1 NESCAC) returns to the court Saturday as they visit Hamilton for a 3:00 p.m. tip.
