Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University men's tennis won its fourth straight match with a 9-0 sweep over Lyndon Thursday in a non-conference match-up at the Shapiro Field House.
Norwich improved to 5-1 overall while the Hornets slipped to 0-7.
The Cadets' Jeff Purdy improved to 6-0 in singles action with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep over Kyle Burteau (Richmond, Vt.) at No. 6 singles. He also improved to 6-0 at No. 3 doubles with Jay Carter with an 8-0 win over Dominick Agresta (Barnegat, N.J.) and Michael Desmond (Enfield, Conn.).
Ryan Grindle beat Lyndon's Trevor Updike (Newburyport, Mass.) 6-2. 6-4 at No. 1 singles to improve to 5-1 at the top singles position. Grindle and Ian Hyte took No. 1 doubles by an 8-3 score over Updike and Michael Sigsbury (Pownal, Vt.). Hyte beat Tyler Hall (Keene, N.H.) 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
Marc-Olivier Tourigny defeated Sigsbury 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Patrick Ogden beat Agresta 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. Tourigny and Ogden combined to win No. 2 doubles over Sigsbury and Hall 8-1. Carter took No. 5 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Desmond.
Lyndon will resume its league schedule Saturday when it faces Green Mountain College at the Top Notch resort in Stowe, Vt. The match will get underway at 3 p.m.
