Falcons get the jump on Hornets

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – Albertus Magnus jumped out to a 1-0 lead after one quarter of play en route to a 23-9 victory over Lyndon in non-conference men's lacrosse action Thursday at the Lyndon Athletics Field.

Greg Buck and Dalton Sargent led the early uprising with three goals each in the period while teammate Mike Choiniere added two goals and an assist. Adam Earle opened the scoring at the 12:51 mark to give the Falcons the lead and Buck followed with two consecutive goals in less than five minutes to push the advantage to 3-0.

Dalton fired home back-to-back goals in a two-minute span to push the lead to 5-0 before Choiniere scored two consecutive goals late in the period that gave Albertus Magnus the lead for good.

Colin Young (Sharon, Vt.) got Lyndon on the scoreboard early in the second half with an unassisted goal and Robert Crupi (Scituate, Mass.) found the back of the net at 9:34 of the second quarter off an assist from Ricky Carroll (Ann Arbor, Mich.). Buck scored two more goals in the period and Paul Mirmina added two of his own to give the Falcons a 17-2 advantage heading into intermission.

Albertus Magnus reeled off the first six goals of the third quarter – including a pair by Choiniere – to take a 23-2 lead before Lyndon responded with seven straight tallies in the final 21 minutes of the game.

Justin Mosher (Salem, N.H.) scored with 6:32 left to close out the scoring in the third quarter and Carroll open the final 15 minutes of play with a goal in the period's first minute. Kevin McCarthy (Sayville, N.Y.) got into the scoring act, scoring two of his three goals on the day in an eight-second span to cut the deficit to 23-6 with 12:56 remaining.

Goals by Crupi, Young and McCarthy closed out the scoring in the contest.

Buck had seven goals and four assists to lead the Falcons and Choiniere finished the contest with five goals and five assists. Sargent collected four goals and one assist for the Falcons (3-11) and Mirmina had two goals ion the win.

McCarthy had three goals for Lyndon (3-8) while Young and Crupi chipped in two each. Carroll had one goal and a pair of assists as did Mosher.

Jack Kerner and Earl combined to make 17 saves in the Albertus Magnus goal and Hornet goalkeeper Ryan Leavitt (West Burke, Vt.) stopped 11 shots in the loss.

Lyndon return to action Sunday when it hosts Wheelock College in its season finale. Game time is 1 p.m.
