Box Score RUTLAND, Vt. – The Lyndon men's tennis team lost to North Atlantic Conference foe Castleton 7-2 Thursday afternoon in a match held at Grand Slam Tennis.
The Spartans swept the doubles matches and collected four singles victories on the day. With the victory, Castleton improves to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in the conference, while the Hornets fall to 0-4 overall and 0-3in the NAC.
Seth Marcil improved his team-best victories total to nine with a pair of wins. In singles play, he captured the third-flight match with a 6-1, 6-0 result over Trevor Updike (Falmouth, Mass.) to improve to 5-3 on the season. He followed that up by teaming with Kyle Martin in first singles match, winning 8-3 over Updike and John Corey (Bennington, Vt.).
Martin, meanwhile, snagged his first singles victory of the season with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Corey in the top-flight match, while Andrew Overton (6-2, 6-1) and Tyler Wilcox (6-1, 6-3) recorded straight sets victories in the No. 4 and 5 singles slots, topping Tyler Hall (Keene, N.H.) and Michael Desmond (Enfield, Conn.), respectively.
Overton teamed with Christopher Belanger in the second-flight doubles contest to defeat Hall and Michael Sigsbury (Pownal, Vt.) 8-5, while the tandem of Wilcox and Tyler Konopka completed the sweep of doubles by downing Kyle Berteau (Richmond, Vt.) and Dominick Agresta (Barnegat, N.J.) 8-3.
Lyndon's two wins on the days came in singles play as Sigsbury topped Belanger 6-4, 6-3 in the second flight and Agresta bested Konopka 6-4, 6-3 in sixth singles.
The Hornets return to action Saturday when they host Thomas College at The Edge in Essex, Vt. The match will get underway at 12:30 p.m.
