Box Score LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – The Lyndon men's tennis team recorded its first match victory of the season Wednesday with a 6-3 win over rival Johnson State.
In doubles play, the Hornets tandem of John Corey (Bennington, Vt.) and Trevor Updike (Newburyport, Mass.) took a hard-fought 9-7 decision from the Badgers' Gerrit Lane and Cory Chase. In the second flight, Lyndon's Michael Desmond (Enfield, Conn.) and Michael Sigsbury (Pownal, Vt.) bested Cole Hennessy and Greg Davis 8-2 before Johnson's Alex Harcourt and Zach Baughn got the hosts on the scoreboard with an 8-6 win over Kyle Burteau (Richmond, Vt.) and Tyler Hall (Keene, N.H.) in third doubles.
In singles play, Lane defeated Corey 6-0, 6-1 in the first flight and Updike topped Hennessy 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 in second singles. Sigsbury bested Chase 6-4, 6-3 in the third flight and Hall emerged victorious in fourth singles with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Alex Pakatar.
Desmond beat Baughn 6-0, 6-2 in fifth singles and Davis topped Burteau 6-0, 6-1 in the sixth flight.
Lyndon (1-8, 1-5) returns to the courts Saturday when it hosts MCLA at 1 p.m.
