Box Score STOWE, Vt. – Lyndon turned in its best effort of the season thus far, but it was not enough to prevent Green Mountain from securing a 6-3 match victory. The Eagles remained unbeaten on the season as it swept the doubles matches and then took the requisite singles matches to clinch a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win over the Hornets Saturday afternoon at Top Notch Tennis.
The Eagles received two wins each from Connor Braden, Jack Hepburn and Grey McCampbell as the Eagles won both matches against Lyndon this season.
Braden and Nate Berner-Tobin edged their opponents in the top seeded doubles pairing, 8-5. Braden then continued on in first flight singles play, beating his foe 6-2 in the first match before Lyndon's player had to retire in the second set down 2-1.
Hepburn and McCampbell registered an, 8-4, number two doubles win against their rivals from Lyndon. Hepburn then bested his opponent in third flight singles, 6-2, 6-0, while McCampbell also pushed past his opponent in fifth flight singles, 6-2, 6-1.
The final victory came in third flight doubles as Truman Cressey and Jack Tiernan triumphed in their pairing, 8-3.
Both Braden and Hepburn remain unbeaten singles play, each sporting 6-0 records, while McCampbell sits at 4-2. Braden also remains unbeaten (6-0) with Berner-Tobin in doubles play as does Cressey and Tiernan who have posted a clean 4-0 record, thus far.
In second singles, Lyndon's Trevor Updike (Newburyport, Mass.) recorded a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win over Berner-Tobin and Tyler Hall (Keene, N.H.) followed with a 6-4, 2-6, 107 victory over Cressey in No. 4 singles. Michael Desmond (Enfield, Conn.) collected the final win of the day of the day with a 1-6, 6-4, 10-7 win over Tiernan.
Lyndon (0-8, 0-5NAC) will travel to Johnson, Vt. Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. match with Johnson State College.
