Box Score HENNIKER, N.H. – The Lyndon men's lacrosse took a few steps forward in its 26-4 road loss to New England College Wednesday afternoon.
Ricky Carroll (Ann Arbor, Mich.) scored twice for the Hornets, while Justin Mosher (Salem, N.H.) and Kevin McCarthy Sayville, N.Y.) tallied one each. Mosher also had an assist in the contest as Lyndon won 18 of 33 face-offs and drew only three penalties in the contest
With the win the, Pilgrims improve to 2-4 on the season and remain undefeated in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) improving to 2-0. The loss drops Lyndon to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the NAC.
New England College would open the scoring early netting three quick goals in the opening seven minutes of play. Lyndon would battle back as Carroll and McCarthy would net back-to-back goals cutting the NEC lead to 3-2 with 6:59 remaining in the quarter. The Pilgrims would turn up the offense finishing the quarter with five straight goals, including two by Skyler Saunders, giving NEC the 8-2 lead.
Lyndon would notch the first goal of the second quarter before NEC would real off eight unanswered scores, including two by Matt Richard, and head into the intermission with the 16-3 advantage.
NEC would continue to dominate second half play as the Pilgrims outscored the Hornets 5-1 in the third quarter and then closed out the game with five unanswered in the fourth quarter en route to the eventual 26-4 victory.
Leading the way for NEC was Skyler Saunders who finished with five goals and two assists and Matt Richard who netted two goals and dished out five assists. Sean Largay made an impact on offense scoring four goals and finishing with two assists, while Nick Herzog netted four goals and had one assist.
NEC finished the game out shooting Lyndon 51-30 and held the 28-17 advantage in ground balls.
Picking up the win in net for NEC was Chris Galluzo who finished with eight saves, while AJ Aitorr recorded seven saves in 14 minutes of work and Danny Tibbrine stopped one shot. In net for Lyndon was Shane Morin (Salem, N.H.) who notched 13 saves on the afternoon.
Lyndon will hit the field again on Saturday, when they travel to take on conference foe Husson University in Bangor, Maine. Game time is .
