Lyndon loses season opener

CASTINE, Maine – Lyndon opened its 2015 season Saturday with a 24-0 loss to Maine Maritime Academy in North Atlantic Conference men's action at Ritchie Field.

The Mariners were led by six goals from Nicholas Betti and Peter Moore . Betti added three assists, six ground balls and a caused turnover, while Moore added a pair of assists, six ground balls and a caused turnover.

Tim Grant recorded three goals, while Bronson Guimond , Dean Samuelson and Kyle Thomas each added a pair of goals. Mike Fuller added a goal and a season-high, five assists.

Ian Larcom led the Mariners with seven ground balls and three caused turnovers, while James Wilgus and Jacob Rondeau combined for the shutout in net for the Mariners with five saves.  

Jack Tragert went 17 for 19 on the faceoff, while Grant went 3-for-3 and Elliot Roberts went 2- for-3. The Mariners went 4-for-5 on man-up opportunities, 16 of 17 on clear attempts, and scooped up 68 ground balls.

Justin Mosher (Salem, N.H.) and Shane Morin (Salem, N.H.) led the Hornets with five ground balls apiece, while Jeff Russell (South Royalton, Vt.) and Ian Pelkey (Milton, Vt.) caused two turnovers each. Morin was strong in net for Lyndon, recording 19 saves in the loss.

With the loss, the Hornets fall to 0-1 overall and in the NAC. The Hornets will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Henniker, N.H. to face New England College at 4 p.m.
