Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Lyndon men's tennis team opened its 2015 season Thursday with an 8-1 non-conference loss to Norwich University at NU's Shapiro Fieldhouse.
Jeff Purdy stayed perfect on the season at No. 5 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep over Michael Desmond (Enfield, Conn.). He also teamed with Jay Carter to take No. 3 doubles over Desmond and Kyle Burteau (Richmond, Vt.) 8-0.
Carter beat Tyler Hall (Keene, N.H.) 6-0, 6-1 at No.4 singles while Ryan Grindle beat John Corey (Bennington, Vt.) 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. He also teamed with Tyler Eagan to defeat Michael Sigsbury (Pownal, Vt.) and Hall to take No. 2 doubles 8-1. Eagan won No. 6 singles over Burteau 6-0, 6-1.
Marc-Olivier Tourigny beat Sigsbury 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles to improve to 3-1 on the season. Tourigny and Patrick Ogden teamed to take No. 1 doubles over Corey and Trevor Updike (Newburyport, Mass.) 8-1.
Updike had the lone Hornet win of the day, a 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 victory over Ogden.
Lyndon is now 0-1 on the season and will face in-state rival Green Mountain Saturday at 1 p.m.
