Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. – Lyndon's title hopes came to an end Friday with a 78-66 loss to Husson University in the semifinals of the North Atlantic Conference playoffs.
Aaron Willis scored 33 points to propel the Eagles to their third-straight NAC Championship game. Husson improves to 20-6 on the year while Lyndon falls to 11-16.
The Honets jumped out to a 10-3 advantage to start the contest but Husson went on an 11-to-2 run - courtesy of nine points from Willis -to take a 14-12 lead with 11:48 left. Husson would try to expand its lead, but Lyndon kept hanging around and took a 34-33 lead into halftime.
Lyndon opened a 48-40 lead to open the second half, but the Eagles responded with another 11-to-2 spurt capped by an Eli Itkin layup with 10:51 left that gave Husson a 51-50 lead. The Hornets knotted it at 51-51, but the Eagles went on a 13-to-4 run capped by two Itkin free throws with 3:32 left that gave Husson a 64-55 lead with 3:32 remaining.
The Hornets would get no closer than seven points the rest of the way as the second-seeded Eagles advanced to play top-seed Colby-Sawyer at 2 p.m. tomorrow.
Raheem Anderson added 19 points while Trevon Butler added eight points and 10 rebounds.Husson shot 39 percent for the game while Lyndon shot 43.1 percent. The Eagles went 27-32 from the free throw line while Lyndon was 11-16.
David Johnson (Washington, D.C.) had 17 points for Lyndon and Rontrez Purcell (Washington, D.C.) had 17 points as well to go along with seven rebounds and three assists. George Carle (Central Falls, R.I.) had 12 points and five rebounds in the loss and Rob Alers (Central Falls, R.I.) had nine points and five rebounds.
