Johnson shines again, but Lyndon falls to Husson 69-66

Box Score

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – Lyndon's late three-point attempt from David Johnson (Washington, D.C.) fell short as time expired on Friday evening, sending Husson home with a 69-66 North Atlantic Conference victory over the Hornets.

Husson shot 46.3 percent from the field while Lyndon shot 44.4. Johnson led the way for the Hornets with 26 points while Aaron Willis had 18 for Husson. Jacob Moore tallied 15 for the Eagles and Raheem Anderson had 14.

"Johnson was playing really well today," said Lyndon Head Coach Chris Dorsey. "The final play call was drawn up for him and we knew if we could get him an open shot he would knock it down."

Husson was able to jump out to an early 9-3 lead as Willis, Jacob Moore, and Mitch Worcester all hit three pointers. Lyndon fought back with two three-pointers of their own to tie the game at 9. Lyndon found themselves down 33-31 at halftime. Johnson had 16 of his team's 31 first-half points.

"He's our best all-around offensive player," said Dorsey. "He's extremely important to the team and the program."

Lyndon found themselves ahead 46-39 early in the second half, the biggest lead for either team throughout the course of the game. The Hornets offensive attack would become stagnant and the Eagles began their comeback. Now trailing 48-46, George Carle would make one of two free throws to get within one.

"Defensively we played much better at Husson," said Dorsey. "We played bad defense today and shot terrible from the free throw line."

The game would once again be tied at 61 when Johnson knocked down an 18-foot jump shot. Husson would regain the lead off a Moore three pointer, putting the Eagles up 65-62. Willis added a three pointer of his own to put his team up 68-64, and they would not look back.

Jose Berroa (Lawrence, Mass.) had a team-high seven rebounds in the loss and Johnson handed out four assists to go along with two steals.

Husson moves to 12-3 in NAC play and 15-5 overall. Lyndon goes to 7-8 in NAC action and 8-14 overall.

"We're on the right track," said Dorsey. "We just took a step back today but hopefully we can keep moving forward."

The push for the playoffs continues tomorrow as Maine-Maritime Academy makes the trip to Lyndon State for a 12p.m. start.
