Box Score 2 Hornets Swept by Mariners
JOHNSON, VT – The Lyndon State College women's volleyball team (7-11 overall, 3-3 NAC) faced Maine Maritime Academy (15-10 overall, 4-1 NAC) for a North Atlantic Conference match on Saturday, losing 3-0.
Lyndon started the first set strong and were able to keep it close, tying it at 11-11. However, Maine Maritime then went on a 7-0 run and before winning the set 25-15.
Within the second set, Maine Maritime took an early lead and created a gap of 20-10. Lyndon was able to fight back and get within three, making it 24-21. Maine Maritime took the next point to win the set 25-21.
Maine Maritime took another early lead in the third set, creating a gap of 12, with a score of 19-7. MMA's strong communication led them to win the third set 25-12.
Lyndon was led by Kelleigh Murtagh (Merrimack, N.H.) with 6 kills, 2 assists, and 8 digs and Gwyneth Stahl (Whitinsville, Mass.) with 5 kills, 2 assists, and 6 digs.
Maine Maritime was led by Gillian O'Neal with 11 kills, 8 assists, and 9 digs and by Tess Clark with 8 kills, and 2 digs.
Maine Maritime will face Colby-Sawyer on Tuesday, October 27th at 7:00PM for a non-conference match-up.
Lyndon takes down Husson for final playoff spot
JOHNSON, Vt - Only a half hour after ending their game with Maine Maritime, Lyndon State College (7-11 overall, 3-3 NAC) faced Husson University (9-19 overall, 2-4 NAC) in their final North Atlantic Conference match of the regular season. Whoever came out on top would determine the fourth and final seed of the playoffs.
Husson was coming off of a 3-0 win over Johnson earlier in the day and Lyndon just ended a 3-0 loss to Maine Maritime. Throughout the first set one could feel the hype Husson had coming out of a win while Lyndon was still trying to gather themselves from a loss.
Husson took an early lead of 7-1 in the first set, hurting Lyndon as they came up short 25-14.
Lyndon came out strong in the second set. The score went back and forth continuously as Lyndon would be up two, then tied, and then Husson would lead by two. It was tied up at 21-21, but then in the last few volleys Lyndon was able to tally four straight points to win the second set, 25-21.
Once again, the third set showed how equal both these teams were, with the score going back and forth before tying it at 5-5. Lyndon was able to gain momentum and take the lead at 18-13. Husson fought back though and tied it again 19-19. However, Lyndon rallied together and won the third set 25-23.
Going into the fourth set, Lyndon was leading 2-1. Both teams passed points back and forth, keeping it tied up until the 15-15 mark. Husson was then able to gain momentum and push the match to the fifth set with a 25-20 win.
Set five was the determining factor of who would make it into the playoffs. Lyndon was able to take the lead and be the first to 8, leading 8-4. However, Husson came in close proximity leaving the score 13-12. One could feel the tension and anxiety within the room. After two straight points, Lyndon came out on top 15-12, securing themselves a playoff spot.

Sean Fisher commented, "I'm proud of the ladies today. They fought tough and for every point. They didn't give up hope. Today they played with heart."
Lyndon was led by Ashley Barski (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) with 8 kills, 6 assists, and 6 digs and Kelleigh Murtagh (Merrimack, N.H.) with 4 kills, 11 assists, and 4 digs.
Husson was led by Lindsay Chapman with 17 kills and 11 digs.
Husson travels to Maine to play Bowdoin and Bates next Saturday, October 31st.
Lyndon travels to Keene State on Thursday, October 29th at 7:00PM before its semifinal match at Colby-Sawyer College on Friday, November 6th.
