Box Score CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton women's tennis team defeated Lyndon Saturday by a match score of 8-1. With the victory, the Spartans are now 3-1 on the season while the Hornets drop to 0-2.
In doubles play, the Spartans' Meghan Susslin and Shannon Hagerty topped Alexandria Maynard (East Hampton, Conn.) and Nichole Jones 8-3 in the first flight before teammates Olga McIntyre and Sara Novenstern beat the Hornet tandem of Alexa Richard (Haverhill, Mass.) and Carina Alden (Marlborough, Mass.) 8-1 in No. 2 doubles.
Castleton's Monika Plante and Gabrielle Keyser completed a sweep of the doubles matches with a hard-fought 8-5 win over Stephanie Burke (Claremont, N.H.) and Christina Boyce Scaghticoke, N.Y.).
Susslin continued her sparkling form, winning the first flight singles match 6-3, 6-0 over Maynard. Novenstern picked up a victory in second flight singles and maintained her perfect record, picking up the victory 7-5, 6-3 in No. 3 doubles over Jones.
In fifth singles, Richard earned the lone Hornet win of the day when Castleton's Kaydeen Juaire retired in the second set. Ruby Bushey picked up her first singles victory of the year with a dominating performance. The junior did not lose a single point in the No. 6 singles match, beating her opponent 6-0, 6-0.
