Box Score LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Undefeated Plymouth State University visited Lyndon Wednesday and defeated the Hornets b y a score of 9-0. The now 6-0 Panthers easily started of the match with a sweep of all three doubles matches.
The sister duo of Sunny and Zara Jakubas beat Christina Boyce (Schaghticoke, N.Y.) and Nichole Jones (Lisbon Falls, Maine) 8-2. In third doubles, the duo of Megan Wallace and Jade Westlake blanked Stephanie Burke (Claremont, N.H.) and Ashley Megrath (Middlesex, Vt.) 8-0. And finally, in second flight the duo of Nitsa Ioannides and Peyton Smith beat Alexandria Maynard (East Hampton, Conn.) and Carina Alden (Marlbourgh, Mass.) 8-3.
The Panthers would also sweep the singles matches winning all six. Zara Jakubas defeated Boyce 6-0, 6-0 while, in second singles Sunny Jakubas defeated Maynard 6-0, 6-1. In third flight singles Cassidy Wells defeated Alexa Richard (Haverhill, Mass.) 6-0, 6-0.
In No. 4 singles, Nikki Lund defeated Jones 6-1, 6-1 and in fifth singles, Ioannides defeated Alden 6-1, 6-0. In sixth singles Rosalie DiRado defeated Burke 6-0, 6-0.
"We played a very solid team that could hit the ball really well," said second-year coach Laura Laramee. "I was proud that some of my players were trying to find different ways of attacking the net. What I see that we need to work on is we need to attack the ball more and work on consistency."
The Hornets return to action Sunday when it travels to New London, N.H. to face North Atlantic Conference foe Colby-Sawyer College. The match gets underway at 12 p.m.
