Box Score RUTLAND, Vt. – After Green Mountain took two of three doubles matches, Lyndon rallied to win four of six singles matchups to edge past the Eagles 5-4 at the Vermont Sport and Fitness Club.
Green Mountain started the match with wins in first and second flight doubles. The pairing of Connor Braden and Nate Berner-Tobin outhit Lyndon's top duo of John Corey (Bennington, Vt.) and Trevor Updike (Falmouth, Mass.) 8-4.
Second flight doubles saw the Eagles' duo of Jack Hepburn and Grey McCampbell push past the Hornets' number two pairing of Tyler Hall (Keene, N.H.) and Michael Desmond (Enfield, Conn.) by the same 8-4 outcome.
Third flight doubles witnessed the Hornets earn their first point of the match as Chas Legge (Essex Junction, Vt.) and Josh Bacon (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) defeated the Eagles' Andrew Woodman and Forrest Teutsch, 8-3.
Braden started the singles action with a convincing 6-1, 6-0 victory over Corey. Updike evened out the singles play with a straight sets 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) victory over Berner-Tobin.
Hepburn put the Eagles just one win away from a match victory as he ousted Hall in a thrilling three-set match in third flight singles, 6-1, 6-7 (9-11), 6-2. Legge emerged victorious in his match with McCampbell in the number four slot, winning 6-2, 7-6 (7-2).
Desmond and Woodman traded 6-4 victories in the first two sets of their match before Desmond earned a hard-fought 10-8 victory in the deciding set to even up the match.
The sixth flight singles match turned out to be the deciding factor on the day as Bacon earned a straight sets, 6-0, 6-2, victory over Teutsch to land the Hornets their first victory of the young season.
