Box Score LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Lyndon earned its second women's soccer victory of the season Tuesday with a 3-1 win over Newbury at the Lyndon Athletics Field.
Sarah Cornell (Lyndonville, Vt.) opened the scoring at the 13:40 mark of the second half when she took a through ball from Saiya Sok (Milford, N.H) and deposited a shot into the left side of the net behind Nighthawks goalkeeper Elizabeth Fox.
Katy Ebner (Hampstead, N.H.) upped the lead to two goals 15 minutes later when her cross found the far goal post and ricocheted into the near side of the Newbury goal.
In the second half, Morgan Sanderson (Fairfax, Vt.) teed up a drop pass from Kaitlyn Conley (Concord, Vt.) and drilled home a shot from 25 meters for the final Hornets (2-5) goal of the game. The Nighthawks (0-5) put together a late surge, behind an unassisted goal by Corrinn Niski, but they were not able to maintain momentum long enough to get back into the contest.
Lyndon goalie Emily Strese (Gilmanton, N.H.) made three saves to get the win while Fox combined with Paige Sparks to turn aside 15 shots in the game. The Hornets held a 32-9 advantage in shots-on-goal and collected six corner kicks as well to Newbury's none.
