LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — The Lyndon women's tennis improved to 2-3 on the season Wednesday with a narrow 5-4 win over Johnson State College at the Dudley Bell Tennis Center.

In doubles action, the Hornet team of Kayla Flynn (Johnston, R.I.) and Kelly Butler (Hubbardston, Mass.) defeated Deanna Brandstetter and Annette Kaminski 8-6 in the No. 1 matchup. In second flight singles, Lyndon's Olivia Bernard (Barton, Vt.) and Alexandria Maynard (East Hampton, Conn.) beat Maegan Ploof and Kate Murphy 8-4 and the Badger tandem of Clarisse Talley and Eden Towers avoided the sweep for Johnson (1-4, 0-1) with an 8-5 win over Alexa Richard (Haverhill, Mass.) and Carina Alden (New marlborough, Mass.) in No. 3 doubles.

In first singles, Flynn beat Brandstetter 6-2, 6-0 before Barnard topped Kaminski by scores of 6-4, 6-3. Ploof defeated Butler 2-6, 6-4, 10-6 in third singles, Murphy defeated Maynard 6-3, 6-4 in fourth singles and Shelly Mainus bested 6-1, 6-0 in the fifth flight to knot the match at 4-4.
Alden closed out the match for the Hornets with an 8-3 pro set victory over Talley in No. 6 singles.
