Hornets earn split matches with Norwich, Green Mountain

Box Score

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Lyndon fell to 2-5 overall record with a 6-3 non-conference loss to Norwich at the Dudley Bell Tennis Center. On Saturday, Lyndon moved to 2-0 in North Atlantic Conference play with a slim 5-4 win over Green Mountain.

Christian Hoskey, Ryan Grindle and Patrick Ogden picked up wins in singles and doubles for the Cadets while Kristine Brammer earned a victory in fifth flight singles.

Daniel Weiner teamed with Michael Desmond to earn the lone Hornet doubles win on the day and also picked up victories in No. 4 and 6 singles, respectively.

On Saturday, a crucial second flight doubles come-from-behind win was the difference maker in Lyndon's 5-4 match victory in men's tennis over Green Mountain College at the Vermont Sports and Fitness Club.

GMC's second flight doubles duo of Chris Donovan and Andrew O'Neill held a commanding 6-3 advantage, yet were unable to close out a win as their opponents' Daniel Weiner (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) and Chas Legge (Essex Junction, Vt.)  clawed back to earn a tough 9-7 win.

The Eagles fell one win shy of a conference victory as freshmen Connor Braden and Nate Berner-Tobin teamed up to defeat the Hornets' Tyler Schofield (Middleboro, Mass.) and John Corey (Bennington, Vt.) in first flight doubles.  Braden and Berner-Tobin would then along with Donovan win their first through third flight singles matches.

However, that effort was not enough as Lyndon's Weiner, Legge and Mike Desmond (Enfield, Conn.) would win the fourth through sixth flight singles matches to claim victory.

Winning the third flight doubles match was the team of Weiner and Desmond who up ended the Eagle pairing of Chris Gaskin and Duong Vo.
