Lyndon loses season opener to Castleton

Box Score

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – With the addition of a new head coach, and the return of six veterans to the lineup, the Lyndon men's tennis team feels it's ready to take a run at its first-ever North Atlantic Conference (NAC) title.

Leading the Hornets this season is the 2010 NAC Men's Tennis Coach of the Year Laura Laramee, who leaves Johnson State to take over both the Hornet men's and women's programs. She inherits a roster which features All-NAC Second team Singles selection Michael Howard and the Second Team Doubles tandem of Daniel Weiner and Tyler Schofield.

Sophomores Michael Desmond and John Corey also return for Lyndon as does junior Chas Legge and freshman Tyler Hall. The foursome will fill in from the fourth through sixth singles slots as well as second and third doubles.

Lyndon opened the 2013 season on Saturday, March 9 with a 9-0 loss to arch-rival Castleton.

Adam McCaffery won No. 3 singles in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, over Weiner and also earned a 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles. His doubles teammate Mike Glasser pulled out a three-set victory at No. 2 singles, winning the first set 6-3 to Schofield before dropping the second 6-3. However, he came back to take the final set 6-2.

Sam Levine, Zac Conlogue, Corey Kimball and Matt Trombley all also earned singles victories on the day for the Spartans. Levine and Conlogue teamed up to take No. 2 doubles over Schofield and Corey and the duo of Kimball and Trombley won 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.
