Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine –Thomas secured their first victory of the season, defeating Lyndon 104-77 in a North Atlantic Conference men's basketball showdown on Friday night.
Sophomore Levi Barnes had a season-high 27 points in the win.
The first half saw Thomas take control early in the period, with the Hornets having a late surge in the end to get back in reach. The Terriers led by as many as 10 points at the 5:55 mark on a three-pointer by Franklin Salvador. In the last five minutes however Lyndon was go on a 19-9 run to tie the game at 44 apiece at halftime.
Barnes led the first half with 16 points, shooting 5-9 from the floor. Garen Manzo chipped in with 10 points off the bench for the hosts. George Carle had a first half team-high 15 points, going 5-7 from the field for Lyndon.
The second half began the same as it ended, with both teams trading baskets. Lyndon took their largest lead of the night (4) at 18:51 on a David Johnson (Washington, D.C.) layup to make the score 48-44. Thomas responded with a 4-0 run to gain the advance back, and never relinquished the lead. The Terriers ended up leading by as many as 27 in the ending stages of the contest, outscoring their opponents 60-33 in the final period.
Franklin Salvador chipped in with 23; 15 of them coming in the second half, while Manzo finished with 20 points in 20 minutes played off the bench.
For the Hornets, George Carle (Central Falls, R.I.) had a team-high 19 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Howard Lyles (Washington, D.C.) contributed with 18 points in the losing effort.
Thomas shot 55.4% (36-56) from the floor, while going 13-26 (50%) from beyond the arc. Lyndon went 28-67 (41.8%) from the field, while going a mere 2-16 (12.5%) from downtown. The Terriers also held a 37-35 advantage in rebounds.
