Box Score JOHNSON, Vt. – Lyndon defeated Johnson State 5-4 Sunday in a North Eastern Athletic Conference East conference tennis match. The Hornets will enter the NEAC East conference playoffs tournament with a 4-7 overall record while going 2-3 in conference play and the Badgers end their season to 2-9 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
In double play, the Johnson team of Deanna Brandstetter and Annette Kaminski defeated Kayla Flynn (Johnston, R.I) and Kelly Butler (Hubbardston, Mass.) 9-7 in the first flight before the Lyndon tandem of Oliva Bernard (Barton, Vt.) and Alex Maynard (East Hampton, Conn.) beat Maegan Ploof and Kate Murphy 8-4 in the No. 2 matchup.
In third doubles, the Hornets' Kelsey Johnson (White River Junction, Vt.) and Carina Alden (New marlborough, Mass.) took down Eden Towers and Clarisse Talley 8-2.
In singles action, Flynn topped Brandstetter in the first flight 6-4, 6-0 and Kaminski bested Bernard 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2. Butler got by Maegan Ploof 7-6, 6-4 in third singles before Johnson earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Murphy in fourth singles.
Johnson swept the final two singles matches, as Shelly Manius defeated Maynard 6-2, 1-6, 11-9, in a hard-fought match, and Towers slipped past Alden 6-4, 6-4.
