Costello leads Castleton past Lyndon

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Castleton scored early and often en route to a 7-0 win over Lyndon. Mallory Costello's hat trick led the Spartans to their 11th victory of the season and a perfect mark of 6-0 in North Atlantic Conference play. The loss dropped the Hornets to 4-10 overall and 1-6 in the NAC.

The scoring barrage started in the 20th minute when Halie Roberge, off an assist from Jessica Phillips, found the back of the net at 20:22. Five minutes later, the Spartans scored again; this time it was an unassisted tally by Dominique Valancius.

The Spartans would score two more goals in the half to make it 4-0 to end the half. Goals from Haley Stewart, with an assist to Morgan Young, pushed the lead to 3-0 and before Costello scored her first goal of the match.

The second half went the same way as Castleton scored first. Just one minute into the period, Costello struck again with goal a goal assisted by Valancius. Just over four minutes later, Roberge scored off of a throw in to make it 6-0. Costello would record her hat trick at 54:13 of the second half to close out the scoring in the contest.

The Spartans out shot Lyndon 36-6 and had four corner kicks to Lyndon's two. The Castleton goaltending duo of Brielle DeBaise and Jessica Binkowski stopped three shots to earn the shutout while Hornet netminder Emily Strese (Gilmanton, N.H.) stopped 12.
