Hornets earn split

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. - Lyndon split a pair of tennis matches over the weekend, falling 9-0 to Johnson State on the road Friday before recording a 5-4 win over Green Mountain Saturday at the Dudley Bell Tennis Center.

In Friday doubles action, Johnson's Ryan Joy and Chance Swafford defeated Tyler Schofield and John Corey 8-2 in the first flight before teammates Alen Turan and Kyle Young made it 2-0 by topping Daniel Weiner and Sean McKay 8-6 in No. 2 doubles. The badger team of Peter Leblanc and Ben Algar downed Mike Desmond and Joe Anderson 8-4 in the third flight to sweep doubles play.

In singles play, Joy defeated Schofield 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 1 matchup and Swafford made it 5-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Corey in the second flight. Turan beat Weiner 7-5, 6-0 in the third flight before Young slipped past McKay 6-3, 7-5 in No. 4 singles. LeBlanc and Algar closed out singles play with wins over
Desmond (7-6 (7-2), 2-6, 6-3) and Anderson (6-1, 6-1), respectively.

Lyndon returned to the win column Saturday with a narrow North Atlantic Conference victory over Green Mountain.

In first flight doubles, Schofield and Corey bested Christopher Donovan and Samantha Tajirian 8-3. Weiner and Desmond teamed up to earn an 8-3 win over Andrew O'Neill and Laura McRee in No. 2 doubles before the Eagle tandem of Sam Snyder and Nicole Cardish salvaged a 8-5 win over Wildens Fils and  Anderson in third doubles.

Schofield topped Donovan 6-2, 6-3 in No. 1 singles and Tajirian beat Weiner 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 in second singles. Corey earned a 6-3, 6-2 win over McRee in third flight singles and O'Neill topped Fils 8-3 in fourth singles. Snyder defeated Anderson (7-5, 6-0) and Desmond beat Cardish (6-0, 6-0) to close out singles play on the afternoon.

With the win, Lyndon improves to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the NAC. The loss drops Green Mountain to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in the NAC.
