Lyndon drops season opener to Norwich

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich men's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 win over Lyndon State at Shapiro Fieldhouse in non-league action. The Cadets swept all three doubles matches to take a commanding 3-0 lead before singles play even started.

Collin Hyte and Zach Reichelt teamed up to take first doubles 8-1 against Lyndon's Mike Howard (Rocky Hill Conn.) and John Corey Bennington, Vt.). Hyte also beat Howard 6-1 and 6-3 to win first singles and improve to 2-0 in both singles and doubles matches on the season. Reichelt beat Daniel Weiner (Wells, Maine) 6-1, 6-1 at fourth singles as well.

Christian Hoskey and Ryan Grindle combined to take second doubles by a score of 8-1 over Lyndon's Tyler Schofield (Middleboro, Mass.) and Weiner. Hoskey also beat Schofield 6-1, 6-0 at second singles. Grindle downed Corey at third singles by the same scores 6-1, 6-0. The foursome of Hyte, Reichelt, Hoskey and Grindle all stayed perfect on the season with their victories.

Brandon Carver and Joe Dvorak teamed up for an 8-3 win over Lyndon's Donnie Jenness (Newport, Vt.) and Sean McKay (Littleton, N.H.) at third doubles.  Patrick Ogden swept Jenness 6-0, 6-0 at fifth singles and Anthony Verno defeated MacKay,6-0, 6-2 at sixth singles to complete the 9-0 sweep for Norwich.
