Khartabil leads Saint Michael's overs Lyndon State

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Omar Khartabil scored twice to help lift Saint Michael's College past Lyndon by a score of 5-0 at Duffy Field.

Thomas Barron and Simon Rodriguez both contributed a goal and assist to the win. Steve Scanlon also scored for the Purple Knights and Colin Basler tallied two assists. The goals by Barron, Rodriguez and Scanlon were their first as collegiate athletes. Logan Kingman stopped three shots in a little more than 76 minutes before sophomore Chris Howard made his first collegiate appearance but went untested. Jason Gray (East Thetford, Vt.) and Jason Marks (Newtown, Conn.) made four and two saves, respectively, for Lyndon State.

Khartabil scored first for the Purple Knights, breaking onto the board with a shot just inside the left post at 29:02. Seven minutes later, Rodriguez recorded his first collegiate goal when Basler fed a through ball and Rodriguez converted on a breakaway. Scanlon tallied at 66:26 to bring the score to 3-2. Barron soon followed up in the 73rd minute, knocking in a header off a cross from Chris Eckels. The final goal of the game came at 76:19 when a cross from Barron was tipped off the keeper's hands and put in the back of the net by Khartabil.
