NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich Cadets won their third match in their last four with an 8-1 win over Lyndon in a non-conference tennis matchup at Shapiro Fieldhouse.
Collin Hyte and Christian Hoskey led the way for Norwich with wins at first and second singles respectively and doubles as well. Hyte (6-1) beat Mike Howard (Rocky Hill, Conn.) 6-3, 6-2 and then teamed with Luis Galvez to beat Howard and Tyler Schofield (Middleboro, Mass.) at first doubles, 8-4. Hoskey swept Schofield 6-0, 6-0 and then teamed with Joseph Dvorak to down Jeremiah Powell (Concord, Vt.) and Paul Thibault (Westfield, Mass.) at second doubles, 8-4.
Galvez beat Powell 6-2, 6-3 at third singles, while Brandon Carver (7-6 [8-6], 6-3) and Michael Settle (6-4, 6-4) recorded wins for the Cadets at fifth and sixth singles.Settle's win over Daniel Weiner (Wells, Maine) was his first win of the season. Carver and Settle also teamed up to win third doubles 8-1 over Jonathon Lehane (Killingworth, Conn.) and Donald Jenness (Newport, Vt.).
Thibault recorded the lone win for the Hornets (0-3, 0-2 NAC) at fourth singles by rallying past Dvorak after dropping the first set 6-2. Thibault responded with two straight 6-2 wins of his own to take the match.
