NORTHFIELD, Vt.
– The Norwich University men's tennis team won
its second consecutive match as the Cadets got past in-state rival
Lyndon 6-3 in a non-conference match at Shapiro Field House.Norwich
took two of the three doubles points, before winning four of the
six singles matches.
Norwich's No. 1 doubles team
of Collin Hyte and Fritz Kaelber picked up an 8-2 victory over
Teddy Fournier (Enfield, Conn.) and Mike Howard (Rocky Hill, Conn.) at the top spot. Lyndon bounced
back at the second doubles match as the pairing of Brad Darby (Sanford, Maine) and Matt Lentes
(Holyoke, Mass.) edged NU's team of Logan O'Neill and
Graham Oliveira, 9-7.
The Cadets went into singles play
with a 2-1 lead, though, thanks to a win by Chris Pashley and
Travis Tyler at No. 3 doubles. The tandem teamed up to take an 8-3
decision from Jeremiah Powell (Concord, Vt.) and
Tyler Schofield (Middleboro, Mass.).
Hyte and Kaelber got Norwich off
to a strong start in singles play as both won in straight sets to
improve to 6-1 on the season. Hyte defeated Fournier at first
singles, 6-3, 6-3, while Kaelber dispatched Howard, 6-1, 6-1, at
No. 2 singles.
Lyndon picked up singles wins at
Nos. 3 and 4 as Darby and Lentes earned straight-set victories over
O'Neill and Oliveira. Norwich put the match away, however,
with convincing wins by Tyler and Pashley at No. 5 and No. 6,
respectively.
