LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — The Castleton
women's tennis earned its ninth match victory of the season Sunday
when it defeated Lyndon 7-2 at the Dudley Bell Tennis Center.
In No. 1 singles, the Spartans' Michelle Podnecky beat Jenn Falsetti (Albany, N.Y.) 6-2, 6-1 and Kate Bucci won the No. 2
singles matchup by besting Lyndon's Kayla Flynn (Johnston, R.I.)
8-7 (7-4), 6-3.
Castleton's Brittni Racine earned a win in third singles over
Maria Parr (Montpelier, Vt.) 6-0, 6-3, and teammates Chelsea Crehan
(6-3, 6-2) and Kristen McGinn (6-2, 6-1) were victorious in fifth
and sixth singles, beating Amber Hartman (Readsboro, Vt.) and
Margaret George (Glover, Vt.), respectively.
The lone Hornet win in singles came in the fourth flight as
Kelsey Johnson (White River Junction, Vt.) defeated Marina Francy
6-0, 6-3.
In doubles play, Podnecky and Bucci teamed up for an 8-1 win in
first doubles over Johnson and Falsetti. The tandem of Parr and
Flynn followed with an 8-6 win over Racine and Crehan in second
doubles before McGinn and Alyssa Panasci closed out doubles play
with an 8-5 victory over Hartman and Kaitlin Cunningham (Manteca,
Calif.).
