BENNINGTON, Vt. – Lyndon State kicked off the 2009 season on a positive note with a 3-1 road victory over Southern Vermont College.

Trailing 1-0, the Hornets scored their first goal of the season in the 38th minute with a from Abby Fadden (North Haverhill, N.H.). Shauna Buck (Newport Center, Vt.) drew an assist on the play after hitting the post with the initial shot.

Lyndon took the lead for good in the 49th minute on a goal from Kathy Kline (Coventry, R.I.) that was assisted by Samantha Bergeron (Milton, Vt.). Buck rounded out Lyndon State's scoring when she recieved a pass from teammate Michelle Wilcox (Franklin, Vt.) and fired it home for her first tally of the year. 

The Mountaineers lone goal came from freshman Shawnee Webster in the sixth minute of play. Webster scored on a sliding kick into the left corner of the Hornets goal off a pass from Brandi Cain. Sophomore Samantha Smith (North Haverhill, N.H.) got the win at the goal for the Hornets. Mountaineer goalkeeper Amber Mulhern finished with 14 saves.
