NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Lyndon State
College women's tennis team earned its first victory of the
season with a 7-2 win over Mitchell College.
The Lady Hornets recieved victories in singles play from
Becca Irwin (Au Sable Forks, N.Y. - 2-6, 6-0,
6-3), Maria Parr (Montpelier, Vt. - 6-1, 6-0),
Amber Hartman (Readsboro, Vt. - 6-0, 6-0),
Margaret George (Glover, Vt. - 6-0, 6-0) and
Kaitlin Cunnigham (South Stratford, Vt. - 6-0,
6-0). In doubles action, Irwin and Hartman defeated Ilana Papernik
and Caitlyn Brown 8-0 and the team of George and Cunnigham downed
Julie Embley and Kate Jeon 8-0.
The Mariners picked up wins at both number one singles and
doubles. Julie Phelps earned the lone singles point against
LSC's Danielle Jepson (Randolph, N.H.).
Phelps lost the first set 3-6 but bounced back for 6-1 wins in the
second and third sets. She also teamed with Erica Fazio to defeat
Jepson and Parr in doubles action by an 8-3 final.
