LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – Despite having
to forfeit both a singles and doubles match, the Becker College
women's tennis team managed to squeak out 5-4 victory over
Lyndon State College.
In singles competition, Lyndon's Rebecca Irwin
(Au Sable Forks, N.Y.) earned a forfeit victory in the No. 1
matchup before teammate Maria Parr (Montpelier,
Vt.) took the No. 2 match over Becker's Laura Mimms 0-6, 6-1,
6-1. The Lady Hawks' Danielle Stryker topped Amber Hartmann (Readsboro, Vt.) 6-0, 6-0 in No. 3 singles and
Shawna McNally downed LSC's Margaret George
(Glover, Vt.) 6-2, 6-1 in No. 4 singles.
Becker picked up two more singles win when Jessica Burdick (6-2,
6-4) and Sarah Ryzewski (6-0, 6-0) defeated Kaitlin Cunningham (South Stratford, Vt.) and Erin Donnelly (Franklin, Maine) , respectively.
In doubles play, McNally and Stryker beat Parr and Irwin 8-3;
Hartman and George won by forfeit; and the team of Cunningham and
Donnelly defeated Burdick and Ryzewski 8-3.
