Lyndonville, VT - Three Vermont State University Lyndon men's tennis players have been named to the 2024-25 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, as announced on Tuesday.
The student athletes honored include:
- Jeffrey Blais (Newport, VT) is a senior Business Administration major with a 3.83 grade point average. Blais was named to the Empire 8 All-Conference East Division Team on Monday, earning 1st Team honors in singles and 2nd Team honors in doubles, teaming with David Gratton (Newport, VT). He posted a 7-5 overall record and a 3-2 conference mark as Lyndon's first singles player, and was 7-5 overall and 2-3 in the Empire 8 playing first doubles with Gratton and Wesley McIntyre (Troy, NY). Blais was also an Academic All-District selection in tennis a year ago, and in men's soccer in the fall.
- Gratton is a senior Business Administration major with a 3.93 GPA. Gratton was Lyndon's Most Valuable Player for the recently completed season and teamed with Blais to earn Empire 8 All-Conference 2nd Team East Division Doubles honors. He was 4-7 playing second singles this season, and was 6-5 playing double with Blais and Gilbert Flores (Winsted, CT). Like Blais, Gratton was also an Academic All-District selection last season in tennis and in the fall in men'ssoccer.
- Stephen Wutzl (Brookfield, CT) is a senior Computer Information Systems major with a 3.61 GPA. Wutzl was named to the Empire 8 Sportsman of the Year Team. He was 8-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play as a singles player, playing primarily number four. He was 6-6 overall and 2-3 in conference playing doubles with McIntyre and Hames Salvas (Morrisville, VT).
The 2024-25 Academic All-District® Men's Tennis Team, selected by College Sports Communicators (formerly College Sports Information Directors of America - CoSIDA), recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
The top Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 4.
The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA governance structure.
