Northfield, VT - Empire 8 Conference East Division leading Norwich University upended Vermont State University Lyndon, 6-1, in Wednesday's E8 men's tennis matchup. With the win, Norwich improved to 9-1 on the season and 3-0 in conference play. Lyndon fell to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in conference.
The host Cadets started strong by sweeping the three doubles sets. Terrance Bayly-Henshaw and Juan Gonzalez Torres picked up a 6-2 win over David Gratton (Newport, VT) and Wesley McIntyre (Troy, NY) at first singles. Ethan Teluk and Pierce Rohm defeated Parker Pierce (Woodstock, VT) and Addie Jensen (Coventry, VT) and Reynard Gan and Brandon Adamson defeated Joe Buchanan (McCordsville, IN) and Olivia Cordova (Craig, CO) at second and third doubles respectively, both by 6-1 scores.
In singles play, Gratton picked up Lyndon's only win of the day, besting Teluk 6-4, 6-2 at second singles. Norwich took the other five flights, winning first, third, fourth, and fifth in straight sets. With the match decided, Jack Desjardins picked up an 8-0 pro set win over Cordova at sixth singles.
Lyndon returns to action on Saturday when they host Lesley University for a doubleheader. The match is tentatively scheduled to be played at Topnotch Tennis. An Empire 8 match will start things off at 4:00 pm, with a non-conference match to follow. Depending on weather conditions, the match may be moved outdoors to Prouty Beach in Newport, VT.
