Waterville, ME - Vermont State University Lyndon men's tennis players Jeffrey Blais (Newport, VT) and Stephen Wutzl (Brookfield, CT) have both earned recognition from the North Atlantic Conference for their play last week. Blais was named Co-Player of the Week, sharing honors with Calvin Cutler of Thomas College. Wutzl was named Rookie of the Week.
Blais, a junior Climate Change Science major, led the Hornets to their first two wins of the season with a sweep of Lesley on Saturday evening. Playing #1 singles, he won his two matches, 6-0, 6-1, and 6-0, 6-0. He also teamed with David Gratton (Newport, VT) to post a pair of 8-0 wins at #1 doubles.
Wutzl, a junior Computer Information Systems: Software major, won both of his singles matches in the Hornet's sweep of Lesley in dominating fashion, 6-0, 6-0, and 6-0, 6-1. He and doubles partner James Salvas (Morrisville, VT), also captured a pair of wins at #2 doubles, 8-1 and 8-0.
Blais, Wutzl, and the Hornets travel to the State University of New York at Delhi for a pivotal NAC match on Saturday. Play is scheduled to begin at 11:00 am.
