Box Score Lyndonville, VT - Northern Vermont University-Lyndon got contributions up and down the lineup as they ran away from Maine Maritime Academy for a 107-73 victory in Saturday's North Atlantic Conference men's basketball game. With the win the Hornets improve to 5-16 on the season and 2-8 in NAC play. Maine Maritime falls to 4-17 on the season and 2-8 in conference.
The Hornets jumped out to a 9-2 lead less than three minutes into the game and never looked back. Two Neal Mulligna (Marshfield, VT) free throws made the score 48-21 with 1:45 to go in the opening half. The Mariners never got closer than 22 points the rest of the way, as the Hornets posted their highest scoring output of the season.
All 13 Hornets who were in uniform scored in the game, with all playing at least seven minutes. Zach Falkenburg (Bridgeport, NY) led the balanced attack, finishing with a game high 18 points on 6/7 shooting from the floor and 5/6 shooting from the foul line. Kyle Cary (Selkirk, NY), Peyton Olsen (Middleburgh, NY), and Tyrese Harris (Wiesbaden, Germany) each chipped in 15 points and Damon Denteh (Jamaica, NY) also hit double figures with ten points.
Timothy Hoar (Shelburne Falls, MA) pulled down a game high eight rebounds as the Hornets owned a 44-28 advantage on the glass. Luke Fredsell (Whitesboro, NY) dished out a game high five assists, while Falkenburg recorded three steals. The Hornets forced 25 Maine Maritime turnovers while committing 19 themselves.
Andrew Liebert paced Maine Maritime with 13 points. Kimani Anderson was the only other Mariner in double figures, as he finished with 12 points.
The Hornets will be back in action on Sunday afternoon when they host Husson University. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
