Frigid first half costs Hornet men in loss to NAC leaders

Lyndonville, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon men's basketball team suffered through their worst shooting night of the season on Friday evening, and the end result was an 83-51 loss at the hands of the University of Maine at Farmington.  With the win the Beavers improve to 9-3 on the season and remain unbeaten atop the North Atlantic Conference at 3-0.  The Hornets fall to 4-9 overall and 1-2 in NAC play.

Lyndon only connected on six of 28 attempts in the opening half as no Hornet was able to convert on more than one field goal attempt.  Meanwhile Terion Moss scored 15 of his game high 17 points before intermission as UMF moved out to a 46-18 advantage at halftime.  The Hornets played the Beavers on near even terms in the second half, but were unable to put a dent into the UMF lead as the Beavers coasted to the victory.

Moss added four assists to go with his 17 points.  Bill Ruby posted a double double for the Beavers, finishing with 14 points and 11 rebounds.  Riley Robinson and Jack Kane also reached double figures with 13 and ten points respectively.  Kane added ten rebounds.  Damon Denteh (Jamaica, NY) was the only Hornet in fouble figuresas he finished with 12 points.  Kyle Cary (Selkirk, NY) and Tim Hoar (Shelburne Falls, MA) each grabbed seven rebounds and Luke Fredsell (Whitesboro, NY) handed out a game high five assists.

For the game the Hornets only connected on 18 of 57 shots (31.6%) including only 7/32 (21.9%) from behind the three-point line.  UMF was 36/74 (48.6%) from the floor and only 4/23 (17.4%) from distance.  The Beavers held a 51-34 rebounding advantage.  UMF committed 12 turnovers compared to 20 for Lyndon, 16 coming in the opening half.

The Hornets will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Thomas College.  Tip-off for the NAC matchup is 3:00 pm in Stannard Gymnasium.
