Double-Overtime Ends in a Tie

Box Score

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – North Atlantic Conference games continued for the Lyndon State women's soccer team Saturday afternoon as they took Green Mountain College to double-overtime, ending the game in a 0-0 tie.

The Hornets were able to control the flow of the game keeping the ball within the Eagles half, getting off a total of 31 shots to their 1.
Within the first forty-five minutes of play, after a shot from Victoria Carlson (East Haven, Conn.) hit the cross bar, Shelby Sheridan (Enosburg Falls, Vt.) was able to capitalize on the ricochet and drill the ball into the back of the net; however, they called her off-sides.

The second half played out very similarly to the first.  With multiple corner kicks, the Hornets had many opportunities to score, but could not get a foot on the ball.  There was forty-two seconds left to play when Rose Wilson (Marshfield, Vt.) nailed one to the top right corner, but the Eagles goalie, Tyah Culp (Eatonton, Ga.) got a hand on it.  With time winding down, the two squads were headed into overtime.

At the 97:19 mark, Makayla Epps (Foxboro, Mass.) got a shot off that sent Culp diving for the ball with it rolling off her fingers giving Wilson the opportunity to finish the game, but sending it just wide left of the goal.

The Hornets continued their onslaught of shots in double-overtime but were unable to find the back of the net.  Both teams fought until the very end, settling for the 0-0 tie.

Johanna Sargent (West Brookfield, Vt.) had a lone save for the afternoon between the pipes with the Eagles' Culp collecting seventeen.

Kali Demarco (Mechanicville, N.Y.) had the single shot for the Eagles.

Sheridan contributed seven shots for the afternoon along with Carlson's six for the Hornets.
Lyndon (2-4-1, 0-1-1 NAC) travels to Castleton University on Tuesday, September 27th with a 6:30 p.m. start.

Green Mountain (0-5-0, 0-0-1 NAC) plays host to Johnson State on Tuesday, September 27th at 3:30 p.m.
