Hornets lose tough battle with Mt. Ida in home opener

Box Score

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. - After each squad scrimmaged Middlebury College earlier in the day, the Hornets came up just short in each set against the Mt. Ida College Mustangs, losing 3-0.  Lyndon lost the match by a total of only 11 points, 23-25, 19-25, and 22-25.  The scoring went back and forth during the entirety of the match with each team going on short runs.  The Hornets were just unable to produce a big enough run to grab a set from the Mustangs.

The Mustangs were able to control the ball well enough to put up 74 total attacks, recording 26 assists on 29 kills with half of those assists going to senior Taylor Davis.  The team also had a decent night from the service line tacking on 16 aces.  Offensively, the Mustangs were led by sophomore Mary Kate Reidy whose stat line included 10 kills, eight aces, and four digs.  Kristy Walton added nine kills and four digs while Alysha Dunbar pitched in six kills, eight assists, and five aces.

The Hornets were led by junior Kelleigh Murtagh (Merrimack, NH) with four kills and 11 digs while junior Abbey Green (Exeter, RI) recorded four kills and five aces.

"We played well today but we gave up some easy points because the intensity level just wasn't there," said head coach Sean Fisher after the game.  "Moving forward we need to control the ball better and stay aggressive offensively.  I know, and the ladies know, that we can play better than we did today."

The Hornets (1-1) travel to NHTI for a 6:00pm start on Wednesday.  Mt. Ida (3-0) hosts UMass-Boston on Thursday night.
