Box Score LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – The Lyndon women's volleyball team fell to Norwich University 3-0 Wednesday night in Stannard Gymnasium.
In the first set, the Hornets were able to grab a two point lead before the Cadets knotted it up at 13-13 and eventually went on to win the set 25-11. The beginning of the second set went back and forth but the Cadets would take the lead at 10-9 before pulling away for a 25-20 win.
After being tied 9-9 in the third set, the Hornets would go on a roll, stretching the lead to 20-11. However, the Cadets were able to counter the Hornet run and take the final set 25-23.
Offensively, the Hornets were led by junior Gwyneth Stahl (Whitinsville, Vt.) who tallied eight kills, seven assists, and three blocks. Junior Kelleigh Murtagh (Merrimack, N.H.) recorded a match-high 18 digs while senior Ashley Barski (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) added 16 digs and five kills. Senior Laura Drake (Hinsdale, Mass.) finished with a match-high five aces.
Freshman Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) recorded a double-double of 11 kills and 11 digs for the visiting Cadets. Junior Alex Ruediger (Sandy Lake, Pa.) pitched in seven kills and 16 digs while sophomore Katie Crane (Avon, N.Y.) added 11 assists.
Lyndon (5-9, 1-1 NAC) travels to play Castleton and Green Mountain at Castleton on Sunday.
Norwich (4-10, 0-5 GNAC) hosts Rivier and Albertus Magnus on Saturday.
