Hornets bested by Chargers

Box Score

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – The Lyndon women's soccer team was defeated by Colby-Sawyer College 4-0 Saturday afternoon at the Varsity Athletic Field in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play.

Emily Martin (Amesbury, Mass.) recorded the deciding goal in the 27th minute when the Lyndon defense was unable to successfully clear a corner kick and the sophomore put the ball in the back of the net from the middle of the box.

Abbie Sancousy (Douglas, Mass.) increased the lead for the Chargers in the 54th minute when, after receiving the ball from Lizzie Jorgensen (Manchester, Vt.) outside the box, she launched a shot that soared over the diving Hornet keeper, Johanna Sargent (West Brookfield, Vt.).  Martin picked up her second goal of the game in the 62nd minute off a corner kick from Dominique Papa (Farmington, Conn.) with a shot that popped up over Sargent into the net.

Maddie Chamard (Portsmouth, R.I) capped off the scoring for the Chargers in the 70th minute when she found a free ball in a congested box and placed her shot past Sargent to push the final score to 4-0.

A tough Charger defense kept the Hornets from getting a shot in the game despite a few threatening pushes into Charger territory.  Sargent finished the game with 18 saves in net for the Hornets.

Karley Hamilton (Bradford, Vt.) picked up the win and the shutout for the Chargers (7-2-2, 5-0 NAC).

The Hornets (1-8-1, 0-5 NAC) return to the pitch tomorrow at 12:00 pm to host New England College.  The Chargers travel to play Johnson State College at 1:00 pm.
